I love singing. I really do. I've entered some competitions and I've won them. My voice resembles Christina Aguilera and Celin Dion. This is just something I'm passionate about. And really consider doing as I get older. People, adults, everyone, always encourage me to pursue this professionally. It's not that I don't want to, because I really do, it's just I'm so afraid that if I try really hard, I'm not going to make it. Or it's going to take too long and I'm going to give up. I know I've got potential to make it. I'm afraid because so many people want and try to pursue there dream of being a singer, but it doesn't work out for them. What if I'm not that lucky?
After high school, I'm moving to New York and going to college there. I will be study to become a fashion editor (another dream of mine, if singing doesn't work out) for a big magazine like Allure. While I'm in college, I will get an agent, post youtube videos, create a music myspace to get myself known. WHat do you think?

I feel the same way! My opinion: if you love singing than totally go for it! Even if you don't make it to the top, you can still get big in a small town. the important thing is getting experience and getting your self to the stage. Eventually, you will acclomplish your goal. I hope this encourages you, see you at the top!

i truely just think you should go for being a singer. yeah, so what if other people think bad of you? they just dont know you...so they really shouldnt judge you. i bet you are a really good singer like you say you are. if you dont take your shot now, you may not be able to have a shot at being a singer again.

When you love something you just do it. Alot of famous singers were just regular joes who pursued their dreams on the side. Sting, Yolanda Adams, and many other less known artists were teachers who pursued their dreams on their off time until they got the break that allowed them to sing full time.
You can try to intern at music magazines or labels. They are difficult positions to get, and pay practically nothing, but it would be worth it.
I need the BRUTAL truth?
I think that if you truly want it, you will get it, as long as you want to be a singer for the right reasons, instead of just for the money/fame/lifestyle. Those are bonuses, and sure, they're great, but it doesn't make a great singer.
If this is truly what you love doing, then go for it.
You can't get something you want unless you try for it. :)

New York City is one of the best cities to be in if you are an up and coming musician because there are myriad of opportunities. You will always regret not trying if you let fear stop you. That said, being a professional musician, who earns enough money to pay his/her bills, is not the same as being a famous person. You could be a successful singer without being "famous," thereby avoiding the prejudice and cruelty of society on it's pop culture idols. Or, you could find a way to be secure and proud of who you are without worrying about the opinions of others. Keep in mind, though, that being a well-known person means being aware of the opinions of others and constantly trying to please the masses in order to sell your art.
